Life handed him a lemon,
As Life sometimes will do.
His friends looked on in pity,
Assuming he was through.
They came upon him later,
Reclining in the shade
In calm contentment, drinking
A glass of lemonade.
This might summarise what has happened since school buildings, not schools, closed on March 12th. When life gives you lemons – make lemonade! The hard work, resilience, kindness and support of one another has served to enhance what it means to be part of the the unique tapestry that is the GCC community. We were given a challenge that could have deflated us but you embraced that challenge and have succeeded in your work. This sense of community was so evident in your wellbeing week with parents, students, staff and past pupils engaged in some healthy competition. It was great fun!
Right now students deserve a well earned break from study, parents from the battle to maintain a routine that allowed for study to happen and teachers from the long days of planning, delivery and assessment of learning. We wish our Class of 2020 every success as they move on to the next stage of their life. They certainly deserve every success. When the time allows we will all meet again in the college to celebrate you.
While the holidays are now upon us, we will still stay in touch with booklists, timetables, calendars and much more in the coming weeks. We look forward to seeing you all in the new academic year. Stay in touch with us! If you have any worries, concerns, suggestions or questions please contact us.
Stay safe and enjoy the summer ‘reclining in the shade In calm contentment, drinking a glass of lemonade.’
