This week was punctuated by a mid week day off on Wednesday. Students interested in attending the ploughing championships in Athy were encouraged to go on this day and thereby minimise disruption to classes on other days during the week. Large numbers of GCC students as ever travelled up to see the latest in agricultural machinery and other fascinations. Teachers had a staff planning day.
The senior footballers played a friendly against Clonmel High school on Tuesday while the U-16 hurlers opened their championship campaign with a home defeat to Kilkenny CBS. They have been putting in a lot of effort under the guidance of Mr Coffey and Mr. Moore so hopefully they can get their challenge back on course next week.
Another sporting snippet from the past week was Kevin Doyle scoring his first premiership goal for his new club Wolverhampton Wanderers. The first of many, no doubt.
Just to remind anyone interested again that on the night of Thursday, October 1st next, the parents’ council have organised a very interesting evening on the theme of ‘A healthy mind, A healthy body’ where a number of experts will speak on issues of balancing study and leisure and also on issues of nutrition. The parents’ council are to be commended on their initiative.
