John Paul Phelan,T.D., presenting Transition Year awards.
As the school year comes to an end for many, there is still the matter of State examinations to be dealt with for others. Starting on Wednesday, over 280 students will sit their Leaving and Junior Certificate exams here in Good Counsel College and we wish them all the best of luck. It is important at this time that students are supported and that perspective is kept amidst the often ‘over the top’ media coverage of this annual event.
On Monday night last the Transition Year students had their awards night at which they showcased some of their work through the course of the year. The event was attended by the students, their parents and some of their teachers with guest of honour John Paul Phelan, T.D., who was a member of the first ever Transition Year class in the school a number of years ago. John Paul also carried out the honours in officially opening the recently refurbished science labs which are a great addition to the school facilities.
Action from the Sports Day.
During the second last week of term a series of sports mornings and afternoons were organised for all year groups. A lot of effort went in to ensure plenty of novel and varied activities were on offer. The 6th year sports morning on Friday was followed by the annual Parents’ Council barbeque of which you can read more in ‘Featured News Stories’.
Our congratulations and best wishes go to Kevin Doyle for the Euro 2012 championships and to fellow past pupil Tadhg Furlong who is in South Africa for the U-20 rugby World Cup where he starred in the opening round defeat of the host nation. Continued success to both of them.
Here’s hoping all Good Counsel staff, students, parents and friends have a great summer.
