1st Year student Denis Maher who recently qualified for the National semi-final of the Poetry Aloud competition which takes place in the National Library on Friday next. Good luck to him in that and thanks to his teacher Ms Cushen for her work with Denis.
A reminder that the Parents’ Council Music and Craft Fair will take place in the college on Sunday afternoon next from 2pm to 5pm. There will be lots of craft stalls to visit, music, provided by students, to soothe and refreshments provided. It is not a fundraising venture but rather a social event to which admission is free. All welcome.
Last week being National Science week, a group of 6th year students took part in the South East schools Science Quiz and performed with great credit, finishing 4th, missing out by one point on qualification for the National finals. Those involved were Aaron Byrne, Shane Doherty, Matty Van Son, Gavin Feeney, Conor Hartley and Paraic McGrath. Well done to them and thanks also to science teachers Mr B Daly and Mr Quigley for accompanying them. On Friday all first years will enjoy a series of Science workshops which will provide a novel and interesting insight to many scientific topics.
Another Science Week initiative saw all 1st years take part in a science table quiz in the dining room on Thursday of last week. There was keen competition and plenty of fun with the team of Aaron kinsella, Liam O’Shea, Jack Ronan and Michael Phelan emerging victorious. Well done to them.
Our Transition Years have spent the past 2 weeks on work experience and will no doubt be delighted to get back to us next week. Many thanks to all the employers who have provided the work opportunities to the boys.
