Thank you to our Parents’ Council, guests presenters and attendees for a great response to our Careers Night. The Parents’ Council feel it was a great success and the feedback from parents and students has been very positive.
The Parents’ Council are all ready planning for next year and looking at ways to further develop the night for our students and parents. If you have any proposals we would love to hear them.

82 Speakers at the 2018 GCC Careers Night
Speakers on Banking, Carpentry, Pharmaceutical, Medical and tourism industry were among the 82 contributors at this years Good Counsel College Careers Night. Jack Harte, Sales Manager with Diageo and former pupil was guest speaker.
Sheila McAuliffe, Chairperson of the Good Counsel College Parents Counsel, welcomed all the contributors many of whom are past pupils, students and parents who attended and reflected on what a help the night would be for students in trying to decided what career path they are trying to make for themselves.
Waterford Institute of Technology and the Institute of Technology Carlow also were represented and long queues formed at their desks with eager, 3rd, TY, 5th and 6th year students and parents.
Mark O’Brien, College Principal added, “this year the evening was attended by 3rd years up to 6th years as many decisions for CAO, subject selection, apprenticeship choices etc., are being made during this time”.
Jack Harte in his guest speech touched on how the choices he made brought him to where he is today. Jack received his degree in Landscape Architecture from UCC, followed by a Masters in Business Management from UCD Michael Smurfit School of Business. He went on to set up his own enterprise ‘Wild Metal’ following a successful show at Bloom. Today he works for Diageo as sales manager for the HoReCa team, managing hotels, restaurants and events around Ireland. Jack is also a director for the family business Harte Lighting.
Among the industries represented were, entrepreneurs, nursing, trades, law, finance, accounting, Equine, Agricultural, IT, Science, Engineering, Architecture, Construction, Business, Marketing, Tourism, Hospitality, Public services, Teaching and Vocations.
This years careers night was organised by the Parents Counsel and the College Team.

All parents are welcome to join the Parents Council or attend the meetings or events. The next event will be the Christmas Carol service held in the College Church at 8pm on 12th December followed by lighting of the Christmas Remembrance Tree by Prefects. All are welcome with refreshments afterwards.
