Transition Year Information from Mr Leigh O’Brien.
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I hope you and your son are keeping well, enjoying the summer holidays and looking forward to returning to school at 9am on Wednesday September 9th. I just wanted to touch base with you in relation Transition Year 2020/21. As of now we are planning for the school reopening and with that in mind we are looking at the school timetable and our school calendar for TY. One of the main events our TY students look forward to every year is the element of Work Experience. I know from interviewing the students for a position in Transition Year, the majority of them know exactly where they would like to complete their work experience and some students already have it provisionally agreed with employers. After meeting with school management, we have decided due to Covid, to move both blocks of TY work experience to 2021. Normally one of the blocks is held around the October mid term break. For a number of reasons we are moving both work experience blocks to 2021.
- Work Experience Block 1 –Two weeks:
- Monday 1st of February to Friday 12th of February.
- Work Experience Block 2 –Two weeks:
- Week 1- Monday 22nd of March to Friday 26th of March.
- Easter Holidays – Monday 29th March to Friday 9th of April.
- Week 2 – Monday 12th of April to Friday 16th of April.
I will be speaking to you and your sons in much more detail in relation to work experience when we return to school.
Garda Vetting for Work Experience
Links to two documents in relation to Garda vetting can be found below. If your son is 16 years old, I would recommend that you begin the process of applying for his vetting. There is an information sheet attached to these documents as to how to complete both forms. One important piece is that the email address on the student form MUST be the parent/guardians email address. Both documents must be completed and returned in hard copy for the attention of Mr Leigh O’Brien in the College. This process can be quiet slow. In the current work climate the majority of employers will seek Garda vetting to be completed before offering your son a position for his work experience.
- Garda Vetting Form to be completed by student 16 years of age or older.
- Garda Vetting form which must be completed by parent/guardian and returned with the student form to Mr Leigh O Brien.
I look forward to working with you and your son in the year ahead. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me at my email address leigh.obrien@goodcounselcollege.ie
Yours Sincerely,
Leigh O Brien.
TY Coordinator.
